Hi,
since i tried to update portage from 1.8.8-r1 to a higher version i can't use it anymore. Using rescue files, copy new version, checking pyhton version etc doesn't work..

Maybe you should try an older version in the 2.0 series before going to Portage 2.0.35. Portage 1.8.8 is really old, and the upgrade path might not be simple any more.
Alternatively, you can look at /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/files/README.RESCUE -- it might work.

no, emerge rsync doesn't work.. older versions also
i think, i need an older rescue file 1.8.x .. but can't find it |

Perhaps your install CD contains some older portage files?
