When new users are logging in (via SSH if that matters), they get the following error:
dircolors: `/etc/DIR_COLORS': No such file or directory
I did a stage 3 install of Gentoo 1.2. I am a new user so maybe there is something I have missed? |

The file /etc/DIR_COLORS seems to be missing. I have PM'ed the one from my install to you. |

Anyway, this is a post-install question. Moving to Other Things Gentoo. |

Thanks for the replies Naan Yaar, much appreciated.
I created /etc/DIR_COLORS and now on login the users get:
dircolors: /etc/DIR_COLORS:11: invalid line; missing second token
dircolors: /etc/DIR_COLORS:34: invalid line; missing second token
dircolors: /etc/DIR_COLORS:43: invalid line; missing second token
dircolors: `/etc/DIR_COLORS':47: unrecognized keyword of
dircolors: /etc/DIR_COLORS:49: invalid line; missing second token
dircolors: /etc/DIR_COLORS:62: invalid line; missing second token
dircolors: /etc/DIR_COLORS:66: invalid line; missing second token
Anyone have any ideas? |

I think you pasted it into a nano session started without the "-w" option. If you do:
Code: |
rm /etc/DIR_COLORS
nano -w /etc/DIR_COLORS
|
and then paste it into your terminal window and then save, you should be OK. |

That fixed it, thanks for that. I'm still getting used to nano.
Well that is that problem out of the road, thanks for the replies. |

Nano is pretty limited. You may want to look at vim/emacs/xemacs if you want more powerful editors.

I will look into emacs now. It would definitely be worth learning something a little more powerful than nano (and pico which is where I came from).
Thanks again for the help. |
