Replacing the openal and SDL libs with gentoo ones didnt make much difference for me (1 fps). But using the hardware accelerated openal lib did (7 fps), and gave results close to -nosound (-4 fps).

System 2.0 GHz P4, 512 MB, 6800 GT, Audigy 2

9.261956 / 38.520462 / 93.440216 fps (with provided openal and libSDL)

13.903718 / 39.884148 / 98.113800 fps (with Gentoo openal and libSDL)

26.147036 / 50.907150 / 124.031654 fps (no sound)

22.599236 / 46.862709 / 119.072144 fps (hardware accelerated openal)

I'm going to try testing on a machine with a faster CPU ...

I've tried another two machines - a colleague's office machine (3 GHz P4, 6800 GT, sound blaster live, 1 GB, 2.6.7 kernel) and my home machine (2.8 GHz P4, TI 4200, 1 GB memory, Audigy ZS, 2.6.9-rc1).

On my colleagues machine I got similar a similar speedup to my work machine (above in this thread), but with all numbers highers.

On my home machine though, there was little difference between using the original openal.so, the gentoo libopenal.so, the hardware accelerated libopenal.so and -nosound:

nosound
30.289707 / 76.792625 / 173.076294 fps rand[1266367604]
Score = 69.544304

hardware accelerated
32.280655 / 72.686722 / 161.116013 fps rand[1266367604]
Score = 67.228874

gentoo libopenal (openal-20040817)
30.880747 / 69.564270 / 159.400970 fps rand[1266367604]
Score = 65.276329

original openal.so with game, about the same as gentoo libopenal (previous)

So at work I'm getting a solid speedup with hardware accelerated openal with emu10k driven soundcards. But at home only a little speedup. I'm wondering if some other factor is in play - maybe NPTL?

Some months ago I went through a similar benchmarking excercise. I've been prompted to revisit by the arrival of our 6800 GTs. Last time at home, where I did most of the benchmarking, I recall the same sort of improvement as I am current seeing on my work machine. Several things have changed (graphics card (downgrade :)), kernel, NPTL, gcc, ...), so I'm kind of left contemplating the vagaries of benchmarking :)

How are those 6800 GT's not scoring higher than my 6800 non-gt

I have a Leadtek winfast 6800 a400 tdh, which is not a GT, and i get:

hedpe@monster ut2004 $ cat ~/.ut2004/Benchmark/Results/avgfps-2005-04-18-23-28-39.log

Score = 74.842339

I thought the 6800GT was supposed to blow away the non GT's

I don't know... How is it your 6800 does not outscore my 6600GT?

Code:
Score = 78.106163

lol, cause i hear that 6600GT's actually perform just as good as a 6800 non-gt... which is my mistake for buying the 6800 non-gt

i'm still curious about the 6800GT performances...if someone else with a 6800GT could post a benchmark

From most of the reviews I have looked at, it looks as if single 6800GT's should be averaging ~85fps on a standard UT2004 benchmark. I put up a amd64bit website with some hints, config files, and benchmarks here: http://sfsullivan.homelinux.org/

It is still a work in-progress, but....

I surrender. I cant equal my previous stock score even @ 2420mhz and the graphics card clocked at 450/1150.
Could be the drivers! Oh well :oops:

i think what we're forgetting to post are resolution and quality settings, my bench was taken at 1600x1200 with max settings

The benchmark script sets the resolution the same for everyone.

Has anyone successfully overclocked their 66/6800 series cards on AMD64/Gentoo? I got nvclock installed though it is masked, and it just segfaults whenever I try to use it.

Have you tried using it in text mode? it works fine with 6629 drivers. Nvidia drivers 7174 caused an instant crash.
But that is using 32bit gentoo.
All I can confirm is that nvclock works with FX5900 on 64bit gentoo.

Text mode is the only one I tried. I didn't realize there was a GUI. I have version nvclock-0.7-r1 and nvidia drivers 7174.

bitwise log # nvclock -s
NVClock v0.7

Segmentation fault

I'm sorry.
For 6XXX cards you have to build the CVS version.

UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2005-11-23_16.22]
x86 Linux

Score = 50.420574

it's P4 Northwood, and unbranded fx 5200
I guess this is as far as it gets for me since compiling sdl and openal moved down performance instead of speeding up.
This is the 3369 of the full game

here's my strange result:

ut2004-demo-3334.ebuild
x86 Linux
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ @ 2004.564 Mhz
nVidia GeForce 7300 GT AGP (NVAGP1)

ut2004-demo dm-rankin?spectatoronly=true?numbots=12?quickstart=true?attractcam=true -benchmark -seconds=77 -ini=default.ini

24.169773 / 46.465237 / 110.641739 fps rand[1352131214]
Score = 46.412693

glxgears 18816 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3755.798 FPS

This is a very slow performance!!!
I have a latest ebuild xorg and nvidia-drivers on ~x86 machine and kernel 2.6.22.1.

What is the problem?

Thanks in advance
