|
|
I know that NWN's in portage and that there are people playing the game. Does anybody have Neverwinter Nights GOLD? If so, have they had any success running the game using a 2.6.x series kernel?
I attempted to install NWN GOLD using these instructions. Everything goes off without a hitch, until I run "./nwn" from the xterm. A message reading "Error" is printed to the terminal, I hear a "cheep!" sound after about 15 seconds, and nothing else happens.
I've got ALSA configured correctly, as well as the latest nVidia drivers for my GeForce4 MX 440 built against a 2.6.1-mm1 kernel. I'm trying to install NWN through portage, but wanted to know if anybody else has walked this path while I'm fetching the needed files.

Yes, I've played Nwn gold on 2.6 but it has been a while. I did have a regular Nwn that I installed gold on top of though. |

Let me see if I've got this right: You had the original NWN, and then installed Gold on top of the original NWN?
Oh well, I'll figure something out. Thanks for letting me know that it's not a kernel issue. |

I don't know if this will work, but this person seems to be having the same problem you are. I have NWN installed on 2.6, but not gold. I did the NWN -> SOU -> HOTU. I kept having errors when installing from the CD, so I downloaded that 1.2 gig of files and installed using that, instead. |

OK. After upgrading to 2.6.2-mm1 and rebuilding nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx, the installation of NWN I did through portage works. I've can play the original campaign and the demos. Now I just have to settle on a character to play. I'm torn between playing a bard and playing a sorcerer. |

And when you were prompted for the CD key twice, you entered the SoU key the second time around? I think I screwed up by entering the original campaign's CD key twice. But I can nuke the key file and reenter them, I'm sure. |

I have a stalled sorceror @ level 10. Stalled because I haven't played the game in a long time. I'd say it's probably one of the best characters I've ever played. Primarily because I get bored pretty fast and like to be able to change things up. There are tons of spells to learn, so when you get bored with them, you can find some scrolls, and learn new ones. Because of this, I haven't lost interest in developing the character, and that is very important to me.
Playing a sorceror has its drawbacks too. The worst being it becomes very difficult to survive in large mobs.
YMMV. So, play them all, and stick with the one you like best. _________________ Stupid bug, you go squish now!

uhh. burning hands or fireball anyone?
Just got Gold, playing through the first campain. I've got a lvl5 Sorcerer. Have no problems playing on 2.6.1 kernel (Except for the blank screen delay on startup).
Nvidia Drivers work great, i'm actually getting way higher frame rate on my box than in XP.
A new patch came out, 1.62 although it hasnt been released for linux yet.
[edit] Yup. now it is available for linux, happy day! [/edit] _________________ if at first you dont succeed, Skydiving is not for you.

I just installed NWN Gold. I followed the instructions for unpacking zip files on disks 2, 3, 4, and finally 1. Then I emerged nwn. Should that work for the gold version?
When I launch the game and select new single player, I see NWN campaign and expansion pack 1. Is this what I should be seeing?
Thanks. Looking forward to the game after months of Morrowind. _________________ Stephen

everyone have sound working alright?
For some reason, I don't have sound on mine... i'm running through kde (i'd prefer gnome, but there are a few compat. issues with my laptop right now) and sound works in kde.
Would someone mind posting the sound portion of the nwn.ini file... or even the whole thing... i'm stuck... i've tried a few things and it just gets borked... so, i'm stuck playing windowed @ 800x600 with no sound.
the laptop is an HP ze4145 with the ati IGP320M and ali 5451 audio.
thanks in advance! |

Nwn requires esound. Try:
Code: | /etc/init.d/esound start |
Or if you don't have it, emerge esound.
Edit: That's what works on my computer anyway. YMMV |

I don't have esound, and I have no problems with sound in nwn. However, sound was a bit temperamental on my old PC which used onboard sound - I spent ages baffled over it, went into options-sound options-advanced and sound just came on when I tested it. Weird.. _________________ - I
