I recently found this link: http://www.rm-r.net/~meff/i8200/ Down in the CDRW/DVD section I found this:

Here is my hdparm line for the drive: hdparm -K1 -d1 -u1 -c1 -X69 /dev/hdb
Note: If you use devfs you may need to make the device: mknod /dev/hdb b 3 64

Since I'm getting dropped frames in Xine but am using scsi emulation I found the mknod command very interesting. The problem is I already have a /dev/dvd entry, how do I "switch" it to /dev/hdb so I can try the hdparm commands? I am using devfs and I do have "PIIX..." complied under the IDE controller section in the kernel but I don't know if it affects my P4 laptop(with the Intel chipset) or not.

Check out this other thread I found by searching the forums. It might provide some useful information about what you are doing, worth looking into at least.

Yes, it did help. I think what I'm going to do is pass /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 to /dev/hdb in devfsd.conf and see if that helps me.
