Intel E6600, Gigabyte 945GZM-S2 with 2GB of Corsair memory and a nice 750GB Seagate SATA drive. Gentoo works like a charm. Can't say the installation was very pleasant. It is something you need to keep up from time to time. Before the install I had kept another machine alive with emerge for 3 years. I used to be a big AMD fan, but the Core Duo chips are hard to ignore. Good prices, great performance. Another nice the system is the MicroATX case: Antec Aria NSK-1300. Not much bigger than a shoebox. A big aftermarket cooler still fit. Made out of durable composite material. Nice. _________________ amightywind |

@DrAgOnTuX
No pics handy but here is a link to the case. http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=91300
It glows blue too! I got the case at MicroCenter for under $100. I do highly recommend it. I found the Minuet case to be interesting. It is one size down! It is also on the website. Have fun. _________________ amightywind |

1.6GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM and GF8600GT.
If I can include machines that I do not own, an 8 way Britney server that is about 30 times faster than a 3GHz P4. |

If you know why I need those: "No you don't!"
I need them because we're a Coldfusion company and will be running Adobe Coldfusion 8 Enterprise on them. Since CFMX is a crap language which is a real hog on system resources, you'll need/want these kind of systems on which you can run 7 instances of JRUN. If it was PHP or perl-cgi i would have settled for one processor and 4GB of memory... (Hell, my Intel PentiumIV with 2GB mem would run circles around it)
Oh, by the way the systems were build by hpsindustrial.nl in the Netherlands. |

True!
Psst, I'm about to order 2 more of those, but only with 1 quad-core and only 4GB of mem for our Unify environment... But those will probably not run Gentoo though... |

Would you believe me if I had installed Gentoo on a Cray-VIII?
Jokes apart, it'd be much more interresting to know which weirdest/hardest machine you have installed Gentoo . Like a Playstation, phone or PDA...
Otherwise the fastest machine I installed Gentoo was @ OVH: a Core2 Duo 2.66GHz: emerge -e system took about 10-15 minutes IIRC... _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...
