Sure the ultra5 can support it. Got a dremel, a hacksaw, some sandpaper and a screwdriver? |

You'd have to dremel a 2 inch wide slot in the top and the back of your U5 case to use it. _________________ Gentoo Linux/Sparc Developer

From the installation manual:
"23. Jam expensive E3D card into the PCI slot, aligning the lower edge connector with the disk bracket.
24. Apply approximately 10000 N force to upper right of the E3D card.
25. Pick up pieces and discard.
26. Remove remaining E3D fragments from PCI slot before powering on." |

Ok, really now, the fact is the U5 does not have the header for a UPA slot and thus UPA cards aren't supported. Further, there's no place to put one. Sun had to have some way to sell the Ultra 10, after all... |

"upa? elite 3d were pci if i rememver correctly and yeah i think im going with the dremel plan" No they wern't PCI as far as I know.
Well the Ultra 5 doesn't have the type of UPA connector on the MB that the card you have uses. I know, I have an Ultra5. The card you want is the the Creator3 or Creator3D. I have a Creator3D (501-4788) but it will not fit in the Ultra 5 due to no space being in the box for it and the floppy being in the way. You might want to do a bit of searching before you go and cut up your box to insatll a card that won't even plug in.

Elite3D is UPA, maybe you mix it with Expert3D which is PCI.

Ewww, who needs a Floppy
And remember the Motherboards of the U5 and the U10 are the same. If a card works in the UPA of a U10, it will also work in the UPA of a U5 (the Elite3D is supported in the U10). _________________ Gentoo Linux/Sparc Developer

Not me but I also don't want to hack up the case, there are stripped Ultra 10s on Ebay now and then and I will get me one of those and play musical parts.

well poo the dremel method didnt really work out, it turns out all the harddrives sit on top of the slopts and even with that outta the way the card would stick out about 2 cm out of the case.
DOH!
o well i dropped 30 bucks on an ultra 10 case, so my elite 3d will be up in no time! |
