|
|
I'm trying to wean myself away from Windows, and the main last bastion of my Windows usage is games, such as Half-Life.
I'd really like to get the Steam client working through wine or winex, and I"m awfully close-
I have it installed, but when I try to log in, it tells me that it's unable to contact the Steam network.
Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it?
I've googled for it, and tried searching the Forums here and elsewhere, and while I did get a lot of assistance from such searches in getting as far as I have, I'm still stuck at logging in _________________ A proud member of the No post left unanswered Club! |

Same here. I've been trying for months (with every single wine/winex version that came out since). With some versions I couldn't install IE, or HL, or Steam. Now I just can't login to the steam network |

So we're not alone in our suffering!
I also know it can work as I've seen screenshots of people playing TFC in a KDE window
A thousand thank-yous to anyone that can help us with this! And that's just from me! _________________ A proud member of the No post left unanswered Club! |

like I said, I've been trying the latest wine (cvs and releases) ASWELL as winex (binaries and cvs) for quite a while (ever since people said they got it working). No luck yet. |

Ive had Steam working for awile now from the WineX CVS. Give it a shot using scripts found at http://ting.homeunix.org/cvs_wine/GetWineXscripts.html
I used the Mandrake 9.1 / Redhat 9.0 PThreads script and had no troubles. Make sure you remove all exhisting versions of winex. |

can you run wine and winex on the same machine? i dont want to have to reconfigure winex to work with photoshop and dreamweaver (when im lazy) but if its easier with winex then i will def give it a try and i want to play cs pretty bad. hehe. _________________ www.EternalFireProof.com

I don't see why wine and WineX couldn't coexist. _________________ A proud member of the No post left unanswered Club! |

I have steam working with wine. I just emerged the latest one in portage:
Code: |
app-emulation/wine-20031212
|
Just basically a fresh install of that then I manually installed IE, and copied my steam over from windows and chmoded the directory to 777. Then just use the wine config from the other Steam post (I FINALLY GOT STEAM WORKING! yay!!, or something like that). _________________ generic signature here. |
