hi !

i need some help because my printer is still quiet ... i dual boot with win2k so i can say that my canon bjc 2100 works fine. and under gentoo 1.2 to do it work i installed cups like it s discribed in the desktop guide. but nothing happens. even an "echo hello > /dev/lp0" don t work. in the cups configuration server i didn t find the driver for my printer so i went to www.linuxprinting.org to generate a ppd and i copied it to the /usr/share/cups/model folder. my kernel is set like that CONFIG_PARPORT <M> , CONFIG_PARPORT_PC <M>, CONFIG_PRINTER <M> . a lsmod show lp , parport and parport_pc modules. when i want to print the test page this message "Back-channel read error - Invalid argument!" appears and the job is "completed". i also tried downgrading to cups-1.1.14-r4 and do a "/etc/init.d start" but always the same result. what is the problem ? what can i do to make it works ?

There is a thing called TurboPrint that I use with my Canon BJC 4400, give it a try.

I have a Canon BJC-3000 and am having the same problem. cat'ing files to /dev/lp0 produce nothing. I'm pretty certain that my kernel is configured properly, dmesg even gets the info back from the printer. Here is a snippet from dmesg

Code:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
parport0: irq 7 detected
parport0: Printer, Canon BJC-3000
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
lp0: console ready

I need to get this printer working and then share it with the rest of my LAN. Anyone familiar with this problem?
