Go with Gentoo.
Make a livecd that runs your version of GCC and distcc. Boot it on every computer in the lab except one. Start from a stage1 on the last computer.
Then, once you're done, on each client (assuming that the first computer is 10.10.10.1)
# ssh 10.10.10.1 cat /dev/hda > /dev/hda
# mount /dev/hda1 /mnt
# vi /etc/conf.d/net
Done. The bootloader is already working because you imaged the entire drive including the MBR, all the software has been set up, by running distcc on all the other computers you've reduced the compile time to be practically negligible. The only thing that may actually take time would be the disk cloning.

The thread was opened on Mon Jan 26, 2004. We can assume that the decision which distro v_arnold will deploy was made a long time ago. |

I'd say Debian stable as well, for a desktop gentoo........server/mass scale project -> debian |
