|
|
I have built a gentoo server to serve files and offer mail. The system cannot display Japanese fonts. I cannot enter Japanese fonts. E-mails sent in Japanese are garbled by Mutt. E-mails composed by Squirrelmail are also garbled.
I have, inter alia, CJK and NLS in my USE flags.
I use ssmtp to send rely mail to my ISP's smtp server. I collect mail using fetchmail and gotmail. I use procmail to deliver mail to my maildirs. I filter SPAM with bogofilter and spam assassin. Ise squirrelmail and Courier-IMAP for webmail. I use the SSL component.
I cannot use nbsmtp because it intermittently silently fails to send mail. I cannot use hotwayd because it intermittently gets stuck on a message and continuously collects that same message.
I use puTTY as an ssh terminal.
I will consider any solution to my problem. I will make any necessary changes. I know that this can work because I have seen screenshots with puTTY displaying Japanese and I have read howtos for Debian. I don't want to switch to Debian, because overall I really like Gentoo.
Please help. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.
What should I do?[/i] |

1) Do you have japanese locales activated (/etc/env.d/02locale)?
2) Have you re-emerged your glibc to support locales?
3) As for Putty (*opening putty with wine*), you can set the encoding in Window/Translation to whatever you are using. _________________ clue = if 0 == 0 then clue else error "The poster didn't have any clue when he posted this." |

Thank you for your response. I do not have the Japanese locale activated. I couldn't find documentation on how to do so. Can you please direct me in the right direction.
Cheers,
