Im sorry if i shouldnt talk about this since its masked but..
when i go to emerge halflife-server it errors shortly after it starts unpacking with something like this :
/var/tmp/portage/halflife-server-1.1.1.0/work/hlds_l_3110.bin: relocation error: /var/tmp/portage/halflife-server-1.1.1.0/work/hlds_l_3110.bin: undefined symbol: atexit
and then tar exits because the bin didnt extract the tar.gz for tar to unzip
and it all dies
using GCC 3.2
make settings = -march=pentium2 -O3 -pipe |

I started having the same problem when I rebuilt my system with GCC-3.2. Nor does the binary unpack, nor can I run a backup version of the half-life server.
According to this thread,
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=12668&highlight=atexit
It looks like a bug in glibc, probably due to gcc-3.2
