help with eth0 setup

I can not get eth0 to bootup, I am done with the install. I am getting this error Problem starting needed services Netmount was not started.

What is your NIC... what did you compile into the kernel for NIC support? Does /etc/init.d/net.eth0 start produce errors? What is the output of ifconfig -a?

and, the other stuff? Is it compiled into the kernel or as a module? Is the module in /etc/modules.autoload?
