Yes you can. I don't use it, so can't offer advice on setting it up.

I am curious, why would you want to choose lilo over grub?

I'm guessing by his emoticon "mad" that he's having troubles setting it up.

hehe. No. I do multiboot and used boot.ini. LILO is just something to get it going( installed in /boot ).

I probably can use GRUB but can I install it in /boot instead of into the MBR?

You should be able to, although the manual lists this method as deprecated. Look for "Installing GRUB using grub-install" in the manual.

Any reason you are avoiding the MBR (I have had much success with grub and mutlibooting)?

Perhaps this will help too:

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Linux+Win9x+Grub-HOWTO/

Also, the Gentoo Installation Docs can be useful, there's a part about installing GRUB, and IIRC it also tells you how to install GRUB not in MBR.
