After I emerge -e world will that update my system to the latest and greatest kde 3.0.3 and gentoo1.4 and gnome2?? What exactly does it update? |

emerge -e world will rebuild your entire system from scratch. If you just want to update packages, emerge -u world should be fine. Remember to use the -p option first to see what it will build.
However, be very careful upgrading world, because you might get a package that breaks your system. We won't call any names, but well...... GCC 3.2 springs immediately to mind.
I would emerge -pu world and emerge the packages by hand if I were you. |
