|
|
Hi all,
I'm using gentoo 1.4, latest nvidia drivers etc. Game runs fine in single player but multiplayer cannot see other opponents in lobby.
Other opponent is my second machine running mandrake 9.2.
It can see other opponents on a windows machine but then I get the "SDL parachute deployed" msg.
All other multiplayer games, ie Quake3, Bzflag run fine so I'm sure it's not a network prob
I love this game and it runs and looks a lot beter under linux than xp so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Just some additional info that may help:-
I did ldd the hg2stub binary and it said that that it couldn't find the libnetwork.so and relevant libSDL.so. I link them to /usr/local/lib and fixed this but to no avail.
Also tried linking the libSDL and libSDL_mixer in hg2 directory against more current versions in /usr/lib.
No good although it does still work fine in single player
I even tried a different distro RH9.0 - exact same prob.
A google search threw up that it might be a prob with glibc. I'm running the latest patch of Heavy Gear which is linked against glibc2.2.2 (I think).
Thanks |

I presume you mean this :-
"Heavy Gear II works fine once you've replaced servers.dat in ~/.loki/hg2/ with the one here: http://www.icculus.org/lgfaq/servers.dat. [Although LAN play is still fine"
Servers.dat was replaced. That isn't my problem and please note that even if that had been my problem LAN play between linux clients would be fine according to the FAQ |

The latest nvidia drivers have some bugs in them so id use 4499. SDL parachute deployed is a segmentation fault in an SDL app or a run time error. Theres something causing the run time error you might need to contact the developers, but before you do that id reinstall. |

Thanks nukem996,
No good though, I've tried it with 4496 and the newest version. I don't think that's it because the SDL prob only occurs joining a game on a windows machine. Linux to linux, the two machines cannot 'see' each other in the first place , so I dont get the opportunity to see if the prob manifests itself there. |
