what and how do you use that line for granting permission to normal users to scan the scsi bus....my cdrw has always been sr0 , but i have never uncommented and used the sg0 line in devfs.d conf....is there like a howto for changing or setting up the use of this and what changes need to be made to access the cdrw in fstab? |

mmm..thanks...i mean i am able to burn cd's i was more curious to that devfs.conf line that has to do with the scsi generic sg0 and how it works to enable non root users to scan the scsi bus...or am i completely misinterpretting the one line header above that section?
i ahve seen people post about buring with thier cdrws as /dev/sg0 where i cant get mine to be seen correctly like that...tells me its not a valid block device...but i will keep searching google...i know its probably a simple thing |

This is probably a stupid question, but do you have "SCSI generic support" enabled in your kernel? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

dude i am the king of stupid questions...atleast thats how i feel ...so ask away...yeah i am not having dificulty burning cd's or setting up a burner to work...i probably dont actually know all of what i am doing...like the reasoning behind it but i can get it going.
but if i uncomment the line in devfs.conf and then try to run cdrecord --scanbus as non root or wheel user it wont let me...it wont let me mount the cdrw either. xcdroast is what i ahve been using and it now since r10 configures itself for nne root user use...but this like windows is done without any input or understanding on my part other then a click of a button. |
