|
|
Ok, I emerged Gnome on my machine, and I did the emerge nvida-kernel and nvidia-glx, then ran opengl-update as it says to do. Is that enough to get the nvidia drivers installed, or did I miss something ?
Also, what is up with xf86config not liking 64MB videocards ? I ran xf86config to configure XFree to run, when it asked for the amount of memory on my videocard, I typed in 65536, then it exited saying "invalid amount of memory" or something.
Is there a problem with XFree supporting 64MB videocards ? Is it a problem with xf86config ?
I would like to get my GeForce 3 card running fully, using the proper nvidia drivers, and using the full 64MB of RAM is has available |

That should be it. You don't have to worry about the amount of video memory; X will probe for it. Just remove the VideoRam line from XF86Config, and you should be fine.
If you want to use a program to configure X, just give it a value that it accepts when it asks for video memory, then remove the line as I said. |

This is an X thing, and does not belong in Installing Gentoo. Moving to Desktop Environments. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

well you have to enable Load "glx" in your XF86Config file and you have to make sure Load "dri" is not enabled..
Plus you need to change the driver to nvidia and not nv...
and your ram for the card doesnt matter in xf86config because if you look at your XF86Config file its commented out with a #.
Also you might want to look at the readme.txt on nvidias website.. its full of information...
also depending on your video card/ motherboard/ chipset You might want to tweak your settings.. Like for example if you are not using a motherboard supported ny the NVAGP driver you have to use agpgart in the kernel..
so to check to see if its running at max do this:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
this should show you alot of usefull stuff
here is mine
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: NVIDIA
AGP Rate: 4x
Fast Writes: Enabled
SBA: Enabled
If you have anything disabled or your Driver is set to agpgart you probably want to read the readme.txt.
but if you print it out I can help you enable what you need. |
