Fullscreen problem

When I run a program in fullscreen mode (not fully maximized, but full screen like many games run) and autoraise/sloppyfocus is enabled in my window manager I run against a wall. Instead of the program running full screen as I want, all I get is what would be the wm's titlebar across the top of the screen and that's it. The game responds as normal, and I can hear the sounds, but there is no video. I've only noticed this with the *box-type window managers (fluxbox, blackbox, and openbox), and I was hoping someone else knows how I can fix this. I don't know if it is a wm problem, an XF86 problem, or what, but it occurs consistently as long as autoraise and sloppyfocus are enabled.
