Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether i did this right:
emerge gentoo-stats
gentoo-stats --new to get a new ID for my system.
And i was wondering if the gentoo-stats --update should be run as root or as normal user? or does it even matter??
and to add a cron job all i have to do is "crontab -e" and enter the job right?
I don't have to run anything else to make it work? i'm using vcron.
Thanks in advance! _________________ Why are DMB fans so DuMB? |

Thanks for asking this question already dn1282 I was just setting up my cron job for gentoo-stats tonight and wasn't sure how to do this. Just wanted to mention that I had some trouble getting mine to work, turns out I had pasted it into a nano screen (for notes which I make for myself) which was allowing wrapping (I forgot to use the -w) and then I pasted it into the editor that comes up from the other nano screen and vcron was trying to add two different cron jobs (one for each line), once I removed the newline character and got it all on one line everything was just dandy! Thanks all for helping me out!

I'm having a real n00b day today.
I have just installed gentoo-stats, but I am now a bit confused about how to add it to crontab. The install guide says to add "0 0 * * 0,4 /usr/sbin/gentoo-stats --update > /dev/null", but this thread says to use "crontab -e".
I know nothing about cron, so can somebody please tell me which of these I have to do:
1. edit /etc/crontab OR
2. crontab -e
Actually, I have already tried crontab -e, and it accepted my input, but I have no idea what it did!!
Thanks in advance- _________________ Microsoft, the Gates of Hell |
