Goto console and type "mplayer -ao help"
That will list several available audio output drivers. Try and see which one works for you. "sdl" works for me.
So for me I would type in the console "mplayer -ao sdl -gui" |

I have a different problem with xmms. As soon as I want to play a mp3 file with it, it freezes. I have to kill the process then. I reinstalled xmms and set the USE=alsa flag but still, same problem. Playing mp3 files with Noatun works fine though. Any ideas? |

sven:
If you have a second dsp output on your sound card (sound blaster 16 pci works very well for this), tell xmms to use /dev/dsp1 with oss (may be different or impossible for alsa - I don't know).
Otherwise, run xmms with artsdsp so arts routes it through itself:
artsdsp xmms
(use oss output on /dev/dsp as usual)
or.... compile the arts output plugin for xmms. |

It is possible to get it to work...
Im using the latest Alsa [dont know what version] and a soundblaster Live!
And i can use my both channels...
The "trick" is that you have to go to the control as far to the right as possible in alsamixer and MUTE it... (Dont ask me why), then you change your other channels volume with sourund wave or something in the middle of alsamixer. |
