I tried alsa a while back, got it to work after much reading as i was trying to get it working just while gentoo was switching to the new version. After finally getting it to work i decided i didnt like it very much and decided to switch back to kernel emu10k1 drivers. i unmerged all alsa stuff.
Now i want to compile gnome but receive the following error during the compilation of gdk-pixbuf-0.17.0:
creating libgdk_pixbuf_xlib.la
(cd .libs && rm -f libgdk_pixbuf_xlib.la && ln -s ../libgdk_pixbuf_xlib.la libgdk_pixbuf_xlib.la)

Do you still have "alsa" in your USE settings in /etc/make.conf? |
