I ran into all kinds of problems,
first with forgetting the damn sun disk labels, than forgetting to change silo.conf but finally i got it to boot and everything. YAY
Im compiling X as we speak... how long does that take (270mhz / 64mb ram)? Also id like to run the video at 1600x1200, can the built in rage video do it? I have an extra rage xl card sitting around that i could pop in also...

Probably not, I can't remember the exact specs, tho. You probably won't be able to get that PCI vid card working, either, if this is any indication:http://dev.gentoo.org/~bazik/hw.php |

The built-in R128 can't even do 1024x768x32. You'll need a hacksaw and a c3d card to get anything useful out of your U5. Or you could risk a Permedia2, which may or may not work... |

Using the onboard PGX-24 (ive got a series 3 ultra5), im running X comfortably at 1024x768 in 24bit depth. No direct rendering which is slowing down my attempt to test the popular games in portage on sparc and see what works/doesnt/might .... I'm not sure if there will ever BE direct rendering with linux drivers, but we can hope, right?
366mhz cpu, and only 128megs of ram, yet even KDE runs "acceptable" _________________ -Tim Smith |
