I happened to notice the following announcement from for my motherboard:
Quote: | TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) BIOS 5013
Version 5013
16.2 MB
2024/04/04
"Update AGESA version to ComboV2PI 1.2.0.Ca.
Fix AMD processor vulnerabilities security." |
I presume other motherboard makers will be issuing updates if relevant.
I applied it to mine. AFAICT nothing changed, but I feel safer. _________________ Greybeard |

This is probably that the vendor's updated firmware installs a newer iteration of AMD microcode to deal with some set of hardware bugs. It may (or may not) be the case that Linux users keeping current on their kernel and bundled microcode were already getting the same protection. Considering the number of hardware bugs around speculation over the last few years, and the vague nature of the firmware announcement, it is difficult to say if your vendor is ahead of the curve and issuing updates we cannot get through Linux, or behind the curve and fixing things that Linux users fixed months ago. |
