|
|
Hello!
I was using Gentoo for years until I wanted to try NixOS. I wiped my laptop and installed NixOS. After using NixOS for about few months I already missed Gentoo. So I went back to Gentoo last night. The Installation was smooth and no issue after rebooting. I logged in as root to install some packages like xorg-server, bspwm, zsh, vim, etc then made a new user for myself with this command:
Code: | useradd -m -s /usr/bin/zsh -G wheel,users,video,audio,tty cryptosidus |
then
Then I logged out and tried to login as cryptosidus, but I recieved an error "Login incorrect".
I went back to root to change cryptosidus' password again. I still can't login cryptosidus. So I went back to root and tried easiest password like test123 and still can't login.
After that I created new user testuser and still can't login as testuser too. Login incorrect
My installation was just simple.. partitions, chroot, emerge world, and setup grub then reboot to login as root to install some packages. that's it. I didn't do anything else.
Here's additional info
/etc/passwd
Code: |
cryptosidus:x:1000:1000::/home/cryptosidus:/usr/bin/zsh
|
ls -l /home
Code: |
drwx------- 2 root root 16384 Apr 29 15:11 lost-found
drwxr-xr-x 58 cryptosidus cryptosidus 4096 May 1 19:23 cryptosidus
|
eselect profile list
Code: |
[22] default/linux/amd64/23.0/systemd (stable) *
|
I think I missed some Gentoo news about latest changes, but I didn't have any issues like this in my previous Gentoo installation and other linux distros. I am not sure what's going on here.
Hope you guys can help me! Thanks!

journalctl -xe | grep cryptosidus
Code: |
May 01 19:18:01 gentoo login[2669256]: FAILED LOGIN (1) on '/dev/tty1' FOR 'cryptosidus', Authentication failure
|
I can login as cryptosidus from root user with su - cryptosidus |

I googled Authentication failure and found this solution:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1528491#p1528491
I looked at the list in /etc/shells and noticed it has /bin/zsh then ran this command: usermod -s /bin/zsh cryptosidus. The problem is fixed. I can finally login.
Thank you for your time to reply.
