When I use my webcam for an extended period, the device disappears from /dev, and software using the camera loses the video feed. It's a razer kiyo, and the device shows up as /dev/video0 and /dev/video1. If I unplug the camera's USB jack and plug it back in immediately, the device returns immediately. At first, I suspected that the camera might not be getting enough power, so I tried plugged it into a powered USB hub, but the results were the same. Does anyone have any ideas?
Here's the output of dmesg from right around the time the camera disappears. There's a ton of errors, but I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem.

The camera is plugged into the computer via a USB extension cable. The extension cable is plugged directly into the computer, and not through the monitor or the like. Unfortunately, the cable really isn't optional for my setup (I'm watching wild life in the backyard).
However, your suggestion did get me thinking that maybe running the connection through the cable is a power drain, so now I'm doing another test: I've plugged the camera into the power USB hub at the location of the camera, and then connected the hub to the computer with the extension cable. Before, when I tried the hub, it was at the computer. So far, this seems to be working. I'm going to give it another day or so and then report back. |

| That was it! Putting the power supply at the camera end solved this. Thanks for helping me diagnose this problem! |
