I know you guys won't know how to fix this. I'm hoping making this post gives me ideas.
I came home today and landed in 2010.
The cats clearly got on the keyboard as the little kde search thingy at the top was open and had a bunch of characters entered in it, but I don't think that's related to this issue.
Audio doesn't work and there is no indication in dmesg or syslog.
mpv has no error messages.
No sound works in any application. Pure silence. I Have proven that attempting to tune AM radio with the receiver makes static so it looks like the receiver is okay.
But the PC seems quite happy as well.
I've had this problem so many times in the past but those issues seemed behind me with the latest kernels and AMD drivers.
I have monkeyed with the sound settings, resetting the output device to HDMI. Tried digital surround settings, turned it off and back on. Tried selecting other outputs and then putting it back.
I have completely shut down the system and rebooted it.
I have reset the receiver and the television, but the TV should not have anything to do with it. audio is supposed to come from HDMI into the receiver and get played through the receiver's speakers.
It's so frustrating because there is no information with which to debug.
Mostly I'm just venting.
I'm off to boot an old kernel just for the heck of it. _________________ Some day there will only be free software. |

Power cycling the receiver by pulling the plug seems to have done the trick.
