Cannot wait to get hands on Plasma 6 + Wayland in order to finally get HDR output for my HTPC.
On the other hand, I'll wait at least it's in ~amd64...
Will any Gentoo how-to be available for this kind of extreme combination?

I went back to X11, Wayland prevented me from using KeePassXC Auto Type feature that I use daily.
But my time on Plasma 6 Wayland looked fine, HDR was there and turned on easy enough (I have a Samsung UN49MU6500) looked like some color tweaking might be in order.
So the answer is now. 
If you want to try, I did the following, but it will probably show up soonish anyway, I was comfortable with it as I've been using Gentoo/KDE for a long time.
If you add the KDE overlay and copy over the keywords files and unmask files

cp /var/db/repos/kde/Documentation/package.accept_keywords/kde-plasma-6.0.keywords /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/
cp /var/db/repos/kde/Documentation/package.accept_keywords/kde-gear-24.02.keywords /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/
cp /var/db/repos/kde/Documentation/package.unmask/kde-frameworks-6.0 /etc/portage/package.unmask/
cp /var/db/repos/kde/Documentation/package.unmask/kde-plasma-6.0 /etc/portage/package.unmask/
cp /var/db/repos/kde/Documentation/package.unmask/kde-gear-24.02 /etc/portage/package.unmask/

And add this to /etc/portage/profile/use.mask
Depending on your system, some extra keywords and use changed are required, but not bad. (YMMMV)

Choose it in the DM screen.
KDE's default DM is SDDM . If you use this , look left-bottom(with default style). |

To my knowledge, there will be no HDR support in X11. If HDR is what you're after, then go with wayland.

| Is there some kind tracking ticket or list of bugs which need to be resolved before Plasma 6 hits ~amd64? I'm eager to try the new KDE, but first I would like to know what issues to expect and how many known problems remains unsolved. |
