Hello Gentoo Forums, I need a bit of help and I do not know if this is the place to get it, if it is, each time I start Xorg (Including SDDM on boot) and I have tried multiple things already to try and fix this issue.
For a bit of context: I wanted to play Minecraft using my Nvidia GPU and read that using Prime would fix that, I followed steps on NVIDIA/Optimus until OpenRC, I was half asleep so I did not do the best job, but ever since I could not use Xorg.
Symptoms I have been experiencing:
Starting Xorg shuts down the screen until changing TTY, happens on SDDM at startup
I cannot use any Graphical Interface due to this
I am very desperate please help
Here is a log file in case it helps
Current setup is:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10300H CPU
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU
8 GB of RAM
Binary Kernel
I have also tried solution found in SDDM Wiki Page but it did not do anything.
Any kind of help and guidance would be appreciated.
[EDIT]
I have tried troubleshooting from Optimus Wiki page on Xorg, did not work. _________________ i will n0t be always using the typing quirk t0 make myself be underst00d. |

Hi my friend,
It might be a bit hard to help you as there is missing information.
Also the xorg log file does not seem to report any error
You mentioned you followed (half asleep) the NVidia Optimus OpenRC manual but is your system running OpenRC or SystemD ?
First did your graphical interface already worked with a generic driver? (e.g. x11-drivers/xf86-video-vesa )
Meaning you really have Display manager and Window manager well installed.
What is your make.conf like ? (looking for VIDEO_CARDS="...")
What nvidia driver did you install
What xorg version do you have (and drivers, guided by VIDEO_CARDS)
So many reasons why you may have a black graphical screen but still working consoles.
You might have already managed, keep us posted.

If you revert your Xorg configuration file to its last known good backup, does it work? If you set aside your Xorg configuration file and rely solely on automatic configuration, does that work? |
