xsane - cannot select scan area using Lexmark MX310dn

Hi all,

Since a good few months now, when scanning with xsane, I am finding that once I have acquired a preview, though the preview window displays the preview and all the buttons are drawn, I cannot select a scan area - my only option is to scan the entire area. All the zoom buttons are disabled, as are Autoselect scan area and Select visible area. I am using a Lexmark MX310dn and see this behaviour whether or not I have the lexmark backend use flag enable for sane-backends. If I use an Epson scanner the issue is not reproduced - I can select the scan area as usual.

Does anybody else experience the same issue and/or have any suggestions? I've done extensive searching for known bugs but nothing matches this behaviour.
