I've done this before, I just can't remember how.
I need to set up my modem in gentoo so I can dial into the internet. Yes, I still have a dial-up connection. And it's free, too. ::sigh::
LSPCI shows this:
| Code: |
00:09.0 Communication controller: ESS Technology ES2898 Modem (rev 03)
|
However, I bought it as a Creative Labs ModemBlaster something-or-other
Most ESS modems seem to be software. So I'm thinking I'm screwed.
Assuming I can use it, how do I set it up? As I said, I've forgotten how to do this, although I've never tried to do it under gentoo (only redhat).
cheers...

You may be in luck. It's always a good idea to check the LinModem howto for such things. I have a LT modem on my laptop, but with DSL I find that in Gentoo I am compiling and installing new kernels way more often than I dial up, so I usually just compile the driver right before dialing!
There is a binary driver available for the ESS WinModem which you may be able to get to work in Gentoo:

Good luck! _________________ Kent

I guess that's the very polite way of saying "RTFM"! _________________ Kent

As silly as it is, I had forgotten about the linmodem webpage.
I think I actually went there once when I was running Redhat 9...but I couldn't use the module because it had been compiled with GCC2.x while the kernel had been compiled with GCC3.x.
Too bad, right now the link to the PCI driver doesn't seem to be working... |
