With critical updates being made to the Brave browser, the brave-overlay is falling behind (Currently at 1.57.57). Does anybody know who actually maintains it? The name and email listed in the brave-bin ebuild metadata.xml isn't it. I know that because I have corresponded with the person listed in the metadata.

The AppImage at https://github.com/srevinsaju/Brave-AppImage is up-to-date and seems sound but I'm certainly not qualified to audit it. Anybody here using it?

Seems to be at 1.58.127:
https://gitlab.com/jason.oliveira/brave-overlay/-/tree/master/www-client/brave-bin

Note that Gentoo's mirror of it was disabled (no longer getting updated) because email had no bugzilla account associated with it to file bugs (the primary way of contact, so ends up being unnotified). So may want to either use that one directly, or contact the overlay to get it re-added to gentoo's repositories.xml after sorting the email issue out.

Ionen, thanks for the info, but it's over my head. How would I "use it directly." Would that mean manually keeping up with version changes?

Oh no, then that seems to be the reason why I couldn't add the overlay the "previous" way when I reinstalled Gentoo last week (15.9). https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1107202-start-25.html

I am excited which way it will continue. Sometimes, as a non-developer who can't write own ebuilds, it's not that easy with Gentoo :?

The instructions for the overlay are in the README of the repository linked by Ionen. (Also displayed by clicking "Repository" on the left hand side after following that link)

Thanks, the link Ionen provided and your instructions, grknight, helped a lot. I shot myself in the foot, but after cleaning up, it got better. First I tried, being unskilled:
Code:
eselect repository disable -f brave-overlay

which unfortunately left a remnant in /etc/portage/repos.conf and didn't remove the overlay. I should have:
Code:
eselect repository remove -f brave-overlay

which I did after cleaning up and manually removing the overlay. Finally, finding the README.md where grknight directed which is at:
https://gitlab.com/jason.oliveira/brave-overlay/-/tree/fa529335a6839236b94169ea7642a79def6abaf5 I used eselect to add the overlay according the the eselect instructions. And now all is well and brave-bin updated easily to brave-bin-1.58.127.

Is this better than using the AppImage I pointed to above?
