hello everybody.

first of all, I'd like to do this:

*falls down on his knees for the Gentoo devs*
*praisepraisepraise*
*falls down on his knees for the Gentoo communitiy*
*praisepraisepraise*
*falls down on his knees for the devs again*
*praisepraisepraise*
*falls down on his knees for the folks that made the manual*
*praisepraisepraisepraisepraisepraise*

a few weeks ago I finished the installation of Gentoo on my system, a dual boot Gentoo/winxp system (sorry, give me an ebuild for cubase/reason and I'll wipe that win crap) that shares one partition (for data sharing). it's set up on a Dell Inspiron 8500 notebook and everything, even the 16:9 screen, works smoothly, apps are set up and IT WAS A FUCKING PIECE OF CAKE! damn... sometimes it was so easy that I was uncertain if it really works ok...

to be honest: I had to do it twice, because the first time I completely messed up my system. in an attempt of panic and based on my experience with windoze ("if you discover a problem you cannot solve, reinstall the system from scratch") I decided to start over. now, with a bit more experience, I knew how to solve these problems I had, but anyhow, it was a very good, very interesting time.

I have a lot of experience with windows machines and know a bit about *nix systems - but I learned more about Linux in the last 3 weeks setting up Gentoo than in years of trying out and giving up other distributions.

I have never seen such an EXCELLENT manual. never seen such a SUPERB community and such a HELPFUL forum. I tried Open-, Free-, NetBSD, SuSE, Mandrake and Debian but have never seen this great combination of "freedom to hack / control over everything" and "guided installation tour".

all my problems I had during installation and configuration were solved simply by hacking some words into the forum search engine. today I know that some people use the Gentoo forums even for problems they have with other distros, simply because there they get the answers to their questions quickly, friendly and of high quality.

funniest thing is: I stumbled upon Gentoo because of its logo... so at least here aesthetics IS your best bet!! :)

Gentoo is intelligent, beautiful, EXTREMELY easy to handle - hell, if Gentoo was a girl I'd marry her instantly! well... probably not marry actually... but you get the message. :)

keep up the good work folks! I'll try to help wherever I can.
