I for the life of am determined to not be able to install gentoo. I have tried a but load of different kernels and configurations on each kernel and I always lock up at boot and
ACPI: Subsystem revision 20031002
And I can't get passed it Please help.
I have a HP Pavilion ze4145 with a AMD Athlon-XP 1800+
I used the 1.4 athlon cd with stage 1 install
I used the 2.6.0-test11
I really want to install Gentoo but I am going on 9 days without a regular boot. |

OK I just took ACPI out of the kernel completely and am still getting the same thing. I used genkernel once with a different kernel and it booted to the login but I had no keyboard. So I tried to use genkernel on this kernel and it fails when doing make modules
it says i8259 count to high resetting
I might have the numbers wrong I don't have the screen right in front of me. So I guess my question is does genkernel work with the new 2.6.0-test11 kernel, and does anyone else have any ideas. |

Try disabling APIC in the kernel and possibly in the bios as well.

blmartin777,
I had the same problem w/ a 2.6 kernel, see this link I fixed it by disabling smp in the kernel.
