When I was trying to restart (and later just start) pure-ftpd it failed saying:
Starting pure-ftpd... [!!]
and it subsequently shows as stopped. Where can I get some more information as to *what* exactly it objected to and choked on?
TIA,

Did you happen to unmerge pure-ftpd? The service control files in /etc/init.d are never deleted when unmerging the package that installed them - they're in a CONFIG_PROTECTed directory (see the Portage Manual for details on that).
IF you're sure it's there and a re-emerge on pure-ftpd doesn't fix the problem, you might want to try looking through the system logs (in the /var/log directory) to see if there are any error messages from pure-ftpd. |

I hadn't unmerged pure-ftpd at that point, but I have since. I will try a re-install of it and check the logs if I have any more problems. Any idea as to a specific log the startup error messages might get filed in?
TIA,

The specific log file depends on what logging package you use :) |
