ok I have been working on this and cannot find a solution, when the emerge comes to mozilla it fails with this error
Code: |

Any idea what I can do to get around this? I have tried emerging from the 1.6a ebuild and get the same error. Thanks! |

Nope... I'm running the stable XFree.
My system is set to compile -Os, however. I've had some issues before.
Anyway, Nautilus wouldn't compile correctly (didn't keep errors because I'm... lazy).
Pango compiled very nicely. But no program would run against it (complained about modules or something. Messed up my terminals. Badly.).
When Pango didn't work, no programs would start (including gdm, gucharmap and some more), so I ended up unmerging and remerging stable Pango.
However, even after fixing Pango, my gdm wouldn't work. So I unmerged it and got a stable version. After fixing permissions in /var/lib/gdm it worked.
GStreamer, you said was buggy. So no surprises there.
A revdep-rebuild fixed some files being linked incorrectly after me playing with the unstable Gnome.
I had similar problems with the BMG Gnome 2.4 builds as well.
I could probably try the new pango again and post a more specific error... |

To all those who have gtk 2.3 installed, are you having any problems with fonts in gkrellm. I also get these errors when I try to compile gdesklets...(don't know if it's related)

The glibtop wrapper in 0.24.1 includes many headers it doesn't need. glibtop/xmalloc.h is one of them. glibtop-2.5.0 doesn't provide that file anymore, which is why the emerge fails. Hopefully the next release will fix this problem. (Or a -r1.ebuild would be nice.) _________________ Real men use every GAIM protocol. |

I love when I have a problem late at night, go to sleep, and randomly have some extra time to look on the forums and find the solution :p.
OK, at least I know I'm not going crazy, yet...
My question still stands to if anyone else is having trouble actually running Nautilus.
Everything else seems to be working very well after a few days of use, a little faster than 2.4, but I'm not sure. |

It crashed on me a few times, but it's certainly usable for me, i get about one crash every two hours (nautilus only crashes), and most of them were related to "close all parents" and the other parents menu items as well as their shortcuts. _________________ registered user #284425

Yeah, Nautilus doesn't even start for me, so there's not even any root (background/desktop) window created. Everything just kind of exists, but not on a root window.
Is there someway to just get the latest Nautlius CVS builds, but not the CVS Gnome (I like fooling around with new things, just not that that much, yet).
Also, Nautilus seems to compile fine, which is the weird thing.
I'll try to post some error messages this evening when I'm home from school. |

so no gdesklets in gnome-2.5 ?
I tried to remove the
#include <xmalloc.h> line and I compiled after this, but I can't still run it. |

Yeah, I still can't get Nautilus to run AT ALL. Anyone have any ideas about this? I can handle the crashing once it's running - that's fine, but I'd like to be able to use it. |

Nautilus is a bit crashy right now, but I don't have a problem with it starting up. Would those of y'all having this problem please try starting nautilus from the command line (with or without gdb) and post the output. It's kinda hard to track down problems without good info... _________________ [urlhttp://www.breakmygentoo.net]BreakMyGentoo - Unstable Gnome and more... |

There is NO output on the command line when I start nautilus and I posted what but buddy caught once already (first page of the thread even). As for what gdb catches, here ya go.

I really don't have any problem with nautilus at all. I only get a crash about once a day over several hours of use. In fact, gnome 2.5 is pretty stable for me. The only thing I can complain about is sometimes it feels a little laggy drawing the menus. I dropped metacity-cvs in and expocity works great for me with no crashs or anything so far. |

A favor for those of us too cowardly to play with installing Gnome ...
could somebody post a couple screenshots of the "new" spatial finder?
(maybe in the Gentoo Chat / December Screenshots thread for all to see?)
Thanks much ...

Any reason why these two are different? I have CXXFLAGS=$CFLAGS in my make.conf so they stay the same. You also may want to try with -O2 instead of -Os. _________________ [urlhttp://www.breakmygentoo.net]BreakMyGentoo - Unstable Gnome and more... |

I don't know how that had happened - my CXXFLAGS line in my make.conf got commented out. I'll try it with O2 and see what happens. Thanks |

emerge linc -C
Sure, you can remerge gnome 2.4 whenever you want. |

IIRC, ORBit2 provides the functionality of linc now, so unmerging linc and merging ORBit2 shouldn't break anything. You may want to do a "qpkg -q linc" to see if you have anything installed that really needs linc. |

You can fix this by adding a (blank) file called xmalloc.h to /usr/include/libgtop-2.0/glibtop/ _________________ In "old" Europe we already have a word for "pre-emptive strikes" mr Bush: its called "war" |
