my system specs:
Mainboard: Epox EP8rDa3+ (with an nforce2 chipset)
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+
kernel: development-sources 2.6.0_beta9

hi,
i have a very strange problem when starting the x-server using the nvidia kernel modules after having bootet a 2.6.0 kernel.

to illustrate it i'll attach a few pics. they'll propably say more than hundreds of words :) :

thats my screen after having typed "/etc/init.d/gdm start":

i couldn't switch to any other virtual terminals (is this the right expression ?) any more and so i used my magic-sysrq key and killed it (ALT+SysRQ+K)

that's what i get:

although i everything looks a little bit strange ;) i can login, browse directorys, copy -, edit - and remove files, ... , ...

that's my screen after having typed "cd /etc" and "ls":

very strange, isn't it :)

when running the xserver using the nv driver it starts although i somehow can't start severel programms. one of them is: xterm. opera runs fine.

please help me :). i need to upgrade to 2.6.0 (used 2.4.22-ac4 before) because it seems to be the only way to enable dma for my cd-recorder
