Hi everybody,
after running gentoo some time i decided to keep it and to make my soundcard, tvcard and so on work.
i tried to compile kernelversion 2.4.19 from kernel.org and the gentoo sources either.
in both cases i get a quite big kernel ( about 3.5 mb) and grub tells me erroro 13. i had a look at grubpages an they say i shall use formats like zImag, bzImage and so on.
well, i did so... !!!???
i added some modules, activated mtrr because i know several applications ask for it and thats it.
the kernel i compiled direct after installation (2.4.18, vanilla) didn't make grub feel sick. and it is only about 1.2 mb big.
from my point of view the only differences are the modules ( shouldnt be the problem) and the kernelversion.
by the way, debian and lilo didn't claim, so i suggest it supost to be gentoo or grub who dont't like me.
does someone have further suggestions ??
thanks a lot,
kind regards,
ralf |

Try again, but before you run make menuconfig, do from /usr/src/linux
You want to be sure you backed up your .config file first, however, and also that the symlink /usr/src/linux is pointing to the right pile of sources you want to use.
HTH,
