I am running Linux on this bad boy but I find it gets warm and idles in upper 40's and lower 50's. I notice that the CPU frequency never falls to its lowest frequency of 800Mhz on any of the 6 cores it has. Earlier systems, the frequency used to fall to the lowest value when the system idled.
Is intel pstate not working like it used to? Why are most cores hanging around in 3.xGhz range during idle?
Code: |
$ cpupower -c all frequency-info | egrep "current CPU frequency:.* GHz" | awk '{print $4" "$5}'
3.28 GHz
3.48 GHz
3.95 GHz
3.97 GHz
3.47 GHz
3.95 GHz
3.98 GHz
3.98 GHz
3.82 GHz
3.52 GHz
3.42 GHz
3.47 GHz

OK, put this one in "stupid-workaround-bites-back" bucket. I was debugging a throttling issue with clock getting stuck at 800Mhz and had this gem:
Code: | echo 75 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/min_perf_pct
| I forgot about it.
The sanity is restored after putting it back to 10 (which limits it to 19%=800Mhz, the lowest frequency). |
