|

Hi
This weekend I spend on installing Gentoo on my Laptop, A Compaq Presareo 725P 1.3 Gz AMD Athlon,256 Mb RAM 20 Gb HD.
At first everything went smooth, and after emerging KDE I found out that I have actually allocated a very small space (2Gb)for my Gentoo. The system was having WXP and Mandrake also in it.So I decided to remove
XP and repartition the disk
I installed Mandrake without any problem as my main system.
now when I started to install the gentoo when ever I tried to bootstrap
it crashed.
Power off by itself. I tried few times and went on installing using a third stage tarball. The same storry when I tried to compile the kernel also
Finally after more than 15 crashes I came up to emerging X
Now it again crash on KDE.
After unpacking X11-QT it crashes.
I found that while loading bigger files system crashes (like XFree86, QT)
But while working on smaller files no crashes.I could merge hdparm, links etc..without any problem
Anyone having same sort of problems?
Thanks in advance

Almost sounds like your laptop is going into power saving mode. You might try disabling that in the BIOS. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

No error messages
It just shutdown like someone switch it off with a small tick sound
I tried to access the bios setup menu by pressing almost all the buttons while booting
But no use |

Depending on the laptop, many times holding the F1 key down during boot works. The boot sequence doesn't mention anything? You might see if the MFG has any info on their website. Usually a MFG is consistant in how to do it. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Maybe the CPU is getting too hot while compiling those big programs and the machine is shutting down because of this? Some hard drives will shut down when they get too hot too. _________________ Ebichu wa chiizu ga daisuki dechu! |
