Hello... kinda newbie here.
I went to set the password for my new (Yipee!!!!!!) gentoo linux system.
It asks for
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
I know we're compiling from source... but shouldn't the source at least be updated to say new LINUX password? Or is this some nastalgic UNIX predecessor link I don't know about? _________________ -----

Well, you'll never see "New Linux password"
Linux, BSD etc. is kind of Unix, so...
passwd will always show "UNIX" (except someone hardcoded it to something else - very unlikely ) |

Probably should just leave the *nix part out. 'New Password:' _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Well, to do so that would be less than 30 minutes of work to the passwd team but who cares ?
I wouldn't mind if I get asked
"Enter you new 1337 cryptic pass pls:"
[although it would be strange ] |

"passwd" isn't so much a Linux program as it is a program to modify passwords for all UNIX-like operating systems. To my knowledge, there's nothing specifically Linux about it, which would make the patch somewhat extraneous. |

But a distribution could change _their_ passwd to say "Linux" and it would be right...(But we already figured out it would be senseless, so... ) |
