mozilla1.1b does not emerge

I want to try the mozilla 1.1 beta release, but i get the emerge aborts with the lines:

.... to be more specific, i tried to compile mozilla1.1b using gcc3.1 . Is it perhaps one of those gcc3.1 issues i have read about in this forum? mozilla1.0 compiles and works fine.

Any suggestions for a 3 day Gentoo nooby
