I have a problem indicated by the above error message. I have searched these forums, usenet, and I am still lost.
I had everyting up and running (Gentoo 1.2, kde, X on TNT2 w/acceleration, blah blah blah).
I then wanted to get TN3270/TN5250 running from our Host on Demand server (HOD is a web front end to a Java-based TN3270/TN5250 emulator).
Well, I went on an emerge rampage.
IBM JRE 1.3.1
Mozilla (later unmerged)
Some other browser; forget the name, but built on Mozilla renderer. (later unmerged)
Sun's JRE 1.4 (later uninstalled)
apache
a bunch of perl modules
xf3270 (I think)
xfsamba
rrdtool
fluxbox
(and, possibly some others)
The unmerges happened in the same x-session as the merges (if that matters).
I created a user for myself (jhoh) and logged off KDE....I couldn't get back to the kdm login.
Reboot.
NO X
Login as root and start troubleshooting.
All my XF86Config FontPaths exist.
I am NOT using a font server (nor have I ever).
Got to the base XFtConfig from a previous post.
I cannot even think what the problem is - I don't even know what filename 'fixed' is, although I assume that it is a "special" fixed width font, but which one.
HEEEEEEEELP. |

I've encountered this myself several times in the past, although it's been so long since I last encountered it that I can't remember what fixed it. I know it's a very common problem, though. Do a google search and you'll get a lot of hits - I'm sure something in there will help you out. |

I forgot to mention that I also needed to do an emerge on the gcc 3.0.4 (I think that this was the version) to get Mozilla to emerge.
Could this have something to do with it? From another source, maybe a problem with "X not agreeing with glibc"? How would I fix that? |

never knows, check your permissions ont he font paths.
also try launching X and a dummy windowmanager like twm, both with root and normal user... _________________ mat |
