any idea when 1.4 is coming out? im assuming it will just be the stabilized version of 1.3b, a fully gcc3.1 gentoo?
im looking to install gentoo on the computers in a local schools computer lab who cannot afford to buy windows. i think they will like linux just fine
anyway, i dont want to stick them with 1.2 and have a half gcc2.96 system and half gcc3.1 system...
any suggestions or an answer to the first question?? |

Short Answer: Sometime on or before Aug. 15th.
Long Answer: Check out the interveiw mksoft posted here.
Advice: I would use gcc 2.9X because if you are doing this for a school setup you want to make sure that everything compiles. Currently, I haven't been able to get DDD to compile with gcc 3.1. I would say that's flat unacceptable for a learning environment. Just my 2 cents. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

2.96 is an RH thing and is not a real GCC release - gentoo currently uses the trusty old 2.95.3
just being pedantic |

requardless of the gcc3.x version, i think ill just go with 2.96..id rather have stability and ability to compile apps than a little more speed. |
