Does emerge rsync fail? I had that problem at one point - turns out I had forgotten to copy /etc/resolv.conf to /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf before the chroot.

I tried again and tried to ping a local machine - it looks like it responded back once and gave me a illegal instruction. Any Suggestions are welcome. Thanks for the Help ! Scott

/sbin/route add -net default gw 'gateway-ip' netmask 0.0.0.0 metric 1

It's nicely explained in the installation doc.

Are you sure you copied the resolv.conf to /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf. I've found that even for my system which uses DHCP for DNS I still had to create the resolve.conf.
