Heya.
I just wanted to suggest a change in the x86 install instructions.
I wanted to install Gentoo on a SCSI System which (important) has a PCI IDE controller with a harddisc attached.
Well, Gentoo installed well, but I couldn't install grub. The solution was to write grub to the mbr before booting the system (from floppy) because the IDE harddisc took grub's hd0 identifier as soon as the system was running.
It would be nice if you mentioned this problem in the docu and maybe expand the grub from bootdisc instructions a little bit so that I was the last one to have problems with scsi motherboards ;)
And if this is the wrong place to suggest such things just tell me ;)
greetings

Try running the command:
Code: | grub --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map |
After the command runs, you'll be in grub shell, type quit to exit.
Look into the file you've just created (/boot/grub/device.map). There you'll see what grub thinks about devices and how it referes them.
This depends on the boot/init sequence of the BIOS. You can modify the file if you wish and install grub to the device.
For more info see in grub's info (info grub) or online at:
