I don't understand what you are asking. You want to see all "system-relevant" files in Gentoo? What is "system-relevant"? The linux kernel? Shells? |

No, a little example:
Filename Function:
/etc/make.conf Describes the options for gcc
/etc/fstab List of all mountpoints
Something like that. There are several explanations in the docs, but no complete referenc of this system relevant files. (I meant config files)

Probably because there are so many of them, and their rating as "system" files is subjective.
/etc/make.conf is a portage/Gentoo specific thing, where was fstab is actually a linux system thing. I hope you see my point. |

At one time there was a thread for creating this sort of document. I can't find it now though. In any case, the idea was to expand this document. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Yeah that IBM page looks sweet, and should give you what you need as far as general linux files. It does look like that page is based on a RedHat install, so beware though.
As far as make.conf vs make.global and other Gentoo stuff, I don't know what to say other than read the docs regarding them. I'm not sure why you'd need a big list of them since make.conf is pretty much the only gentoo-specific file you'll be touching, AFAIK. |
