Hello,
So I had a bit of a rigamarole printing to an ApeosPort-III machine at my office. I am running gnome-2.20.3 and cups-1.3.7-r1, with the printer set up as generic PostScript writing to 'lpd://<ip address>'. I had to learn the following things:
* The machine doesn't like the raw PostScript coming from my Gentoo. It refuses to print the data and gives error code "116-703" with some PS interpreter error. I worked around this by going to the CUPS config webpage (http://localhost:631) and under "Set Printer Options" setting "GhostScript pre-filtering" to "Convert to PS level 2." Now printing works from commandline with "lpr" on either PS or PDF files.
* GNOME has its own settings for these things which attempt to override the CUPS settings; they seem to be buggy. It's not worth it to have to set the paper size and these options every time, when it all works perfectly from the commandline -- just print to file.
May you learn from my pain. _________________ Personal overlay | Simple backup scheme |
