Bizarre sound issues affecting recording system audio

Back whenever google chrome decided to not want to play youtube videos, soundcloud, or other music players properly even though I had the chrome plugins package installed. Apparently whatever messed with my sound from a past update/upgrade also messed with spotify (it plays but with periodic stutters), xmp (plays mods really really fast, way faster than it's supposed to), and when recording system audio with audacity I get periodic gaps of no sound in the recording. I can manually cut the space gaps to connect all the audio back together in audacity before exporting the sound but it shouldn't be doing that to begin with. Could anyone tell me what this weird sound issue is and how might I fix it?

Edit: nevermind, manually cutting the gaps just speeds it up since the gaps were over parts of the audio :/

Audacity doesn't want to properly record from a mic cable as well :/
