Hi guys,
I was having some issues with networking lately (past couple of months or so), the connection didn't work properly on occasional times...
As I was installing Arch on VBox earlier today, I've learned that "The adapter should be recognized by the r8169 module. However, with some chip revisions the connection may go off and on all the time. The alternative r8168 can be found in..." [https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_configuration page bottom].
It turns out my chip is also of the 8168 series, so trying to install it on Gentoo with current stable kernel 3.18.7 simply doesn't work no matter what version I use (~amd64 or not) I always encounter compile error.
Furthermore, it also appears I'm not the only one having issues with compile phase of that module - https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7573146.html?sid=215e4b2f08d61dffc4e015c5c7f75a38, https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-970550-view-previous.html?sid=7ca560a8ae0b99578c7a3632f9ff7e0d, https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=512842.
Bottom Line:
There's a newer, working version of that module in layman's overlay: rafaelmartins, version: r8168-8.039.00 which compiles with no problems and also works like a charm.
So is there a way someone could bump it into portage tree please ? |
